Métis Early Learning Fall In-Person Camp 2024

Sep 26, 2024

The Métis Nation of Ontario's Early Learning Child Care Team would like to invite Métis families to our Fall In-Person Camp that will be held from September 26 to September 29, 2024, at the Canadian Ecology Centre in Mattawa, ON. The Early Learning Fall Camp is designed to provide Métis early learners between the ages of three (3) and twelve (12), their siblings, parents/legal guardians, and grandparent(s) an opportunity to learn more about Métis culture and way of life from an early learning perspective.

At this in-person camp, Métis families will engage in activities that connect them to the land, teach early learners about their Métis culture and way of life, and connect with other Métis families from across Ontario. Parents will also be able to learn more about the programs and services offered through the Métis Nation of Ontario's Early Learning Child Care program.

Selected families will have their accommodation, meals, and travel covered by the MNO.

Families can bring older siblings and siblings younger than three (3) years of age to the camp. Families will have private accommodations. Each cabin can accommodate 3-6 people (two double beds and one single top bunk or three single bunk beds). Families with infants or toddlers are encouraged to bring a playpen.

To be eligible for this camp, applicants must meet the following criteria:

One parent/guardian, grandparent(s), or child must be a Métis Nation of Ontario citizen eligible to receive direct benefits. Grandparents applying to attend camp with their grandchild(ren) must have written consent from the parent/guardian of the child(ren) attending. Have at least one (1) child or grandchild between 3-12 years old. The parent/guardian or grandparent(s) and one (1) additional adult (total two adults) must be able to attend the entire duration of camp and actively participate in camp activities with their children or grandchildren. Interested in learning about Métis history/culture and willing to participate in indoor/outdoor learning.

Space for this camp is limited. Applications will be accepted from July 8th until July 15 at 8:00 am. Applicants will be notified via email by July 19, 2024, of their acceptance to camp or if they have been placed on the waitlist. Preference will be given to families who have not attended an in-person camp in the past.
