On Sunday August 22nd, 2021 the Barrie South Simcoe Metis Council (BSSMC) were excited to host an in person Youth Dot Art Workshop. The workshop was led by the BSSMC Youth Representative, Katelyn Cudmore with the assistance of council members Janette Prisciak, Roxanne Shank, Tony Muscat, Arlene Merkley and Jennifer Prisciak. The 2 hour workshop included a custom logo'd paddle, all the paint, supplies and snacks

A history of dot art, examples of traditional dot art symbols and techniques were reviewed. The participants and some of their parents toured our facility, then practiced their dot art skills. There was a collaboration between the participants and council members and the final products were exceptional.

All the youth were engaged and demonstrated conscientious efforts to produce amazing pieces of dot art. The Barrie South Simcoe Metis Council is looking forward to hosting more youth and family events including dream catcher workshops in November and a youth Christmas party in December which will include cultural programming opportunities.
